"Photographed images do not seem to be statements about the world so much as pieces of it, miniatures of reality that anyone can make or acquire"

This quote relates back to the old saying, 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. Photographs are not powerful enough to make statements about the world as a whole, but they do present statements for the pieces of the world. The many different cultures, religions, beliefs, etc... can be interpreted through a picture. One picture can have numerous things going on within it, thus providing a thousand words to describe it.
